Meet the Owner
Antonio Vilchis
When Antonio Vilchis opened Mexicocina in a tiny spot on E. 149th St. in 2008, his goal was just to make a living, he says. But the blend of brightly colored decor and south-central Mexican food proved to be so successful, that Vilchis and his business partner Ismael Gonzales now run two restaurants in the South Bronx, both bigger than the now-shuttered original!
Experience the vibrant flavors of Mexico at Mexicocina Mezcaleria, your go-to destination in Bronx for authentic Mexican cuisine. Savor our delectable dishes and sip on our finest Mezcal. Taste the tradition today!

I love this place Definitely my favorite restaurant in the neighborhood Same order everytime - 3 Birria Tacos w a side of Guacamole Great chips and the three salsas are so good esp the chipotle one Other food is really good too but Birria is the best We get take out but the restaurant is decorated really nice and the staff is so sweet! 10/10
The food was disgusting. It tasted old and stale, and the nachos were completely soggy and squished instead of crispy. On top of that, it had a really bad smell, which made it even more unappetizing. The quality was unacceptable, and I don’t think food in that condition should be served to customers. Very disappointing experience. Don’t eat from here !!!
I arrived hungry, so my appetite was insatiable. As a ramen enthusiast, I couldn’t resist trying their ramen Birria. It was an absolute delight, bursting with flavor and a delightful combination of spices. I also indulged in their nachos (without meat), and each bite was a testament to the freshness and quality of their ingredients. The server was incredibly attentive and genuine, adding to the overall positive experience. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and will definitely be coming back!
Excellent horchata. That’s all I ordered. Delicious from the machine but not too sugary.
Be forewarned that the place is super small, but I think it’s worth it if you want good drinks. The server is actually the one preparing the drinks and he does a great job managing both the customers and the bar. The food can be a little better in terms of flavor, but overall it’s a good date spot.
